The Lakeless Palace

Udaipur is known for having perhaps the world's most gorgeous lake palace. However, when we got there, we quickly realized something was missing: the lake.

India is incredibly dependent on the monsoon season for its agriculture, but, as we discovered, the drought we are experiencing as a result of the late monsoon is impacting life in other ways too. Unfortunately, this meant that the beautiful palace on a lake was more like a beautiful palace in the middle of a field with a couple of ponds nearby. Though it perhaps detracted from photo opportunities a bit, it also meant we could walk around on the lake bed, among grazing water buffalo, and see the palace from ground (sea?) level.
