Gandhi's Ashram

I will be honest -- there's not a lot to do in Ahmedabad. The one thing we do have going for us, though, is that Mahatma Gandhi spent a good portion of his life here, and chose Ahmedabad for the location of his Ashram.

The site is an expansive, mostly open air tribute, where people continue to live, and children attend school, to this day. We visited the house in which he lived, the rooms in which he met with other influential people, as well as the tree under which he did his most important thinking.

Under an overhang are a series of photographs, lithographs, and paintings of the man at various stages in his life along with pertinent quotes and inspirational thoughts. An attached museum walks the visitor through a timeline of his life (however, still not being used to the whole drive on the left-side of the street thing, I chose the path on the right, as any good American would, which meant I relived Gandhi's life in reverse chronological order) instead of the correct, enter-on-the-left order!

Overall, it was well worth a visit.
